C.O.’s Message – August 31, 2013

Cmdr. Steven J. StasickGreetings Lucky ELEVEN family!

I just wanted to send a short update on our deployment.

We are complete with turnover at all of our sites and doing some great work.  I have already received several emails from camp leadership in Bahrain and Djibouti about how impressed they are with the professionalism and work ethic of our Seabees.

Our Mozambique mission got put on hold because of a funding issue, so they are still here in Rota with us and will be doing some facility work for the Marines in Moron, Spain while they are waiting for the issues to be worked out.

Det Ghana got the green light to execute and is making last minute preparations for their mission.  Det Cameroon will not be far behind.  They have their confirmation brief scheduled for next week and will also be pushing out in the next few weeks.

Master Chief Sampson and I will be starting our first det swing next week and we are definitely looking forward to getting out and seeing all the dets in action.

This is our first two-day liberty weekend for the deployment, and I know that everyone is looking forward to the extra downtime.

We just received word that our GySgt Johnson was selected as the USO Volunteer of the Year out of a pool of 27,000 volunteers across the globe.  He will be receiving the award in Washington DC on 25 October.  An absolutely impressive recognition!!!

If you have not heard, there is a new draft deployment schedule out.  There are no surprises for ELEVEN, and it looks like we will be coming home as originally planned.

Things are going great and thank you for all your support!!
