Message from the C.O. – December 5, 2012

Friends and Family of NMCB ELEVEN,

We have been home now for over 2 months from a very successful Afghanistan deployment.  There certainly is no place like home.  Within a month of returning we mounted out a 90-Seabee Det to convoy over 1200 miles to provide Hurricane Sandy recovery assistance.  I could not be prouder of all Seabees of NMCB ELEVEN.  It took a team effort to mount out Det Sandy within 72 hours of initial notice, with 55 pieces of equipment.  Our Det made it to the Northeast where they provided much needed assistance in New Jersey and New York.  After two weeks, they returned safely back to Gulfport, just in time for Thanksgiving.  A huge Bravo Zulu goes out to all our Seabees and their amazing efforts to complete this mission so successfully and making such a significant difference in the lives of our fellow Americans.

Now we are officially in the holiday season.  Our Command Holiday stand-down will run from 19 December through 6 January.  I encourage all our Seabees to take some time off during this period to spend some very deserved quality time with family and friends.  I just ask that we work together to keep everyone safe during the holidays.  Also, the Command and the Family Readiness Group are hosting a Holiday party on Saturday, 8 December at the Long Beach Senior Center.   All are invited!!  We will have great catered food, door prizes, and plenty of activities for the children, including our very special NMCB ELEVEN Santa!  I do hope to see all of you there- it will be a terrific way to get into the holiday spirit.

I again thank all of our family and friends who provide continued support to our Seabees and willingly sacrifice so much in support of our Nation.  You are the backbone of all we do.  Have a very happy and safe holiday season!
