Mid-Week Manna: What Do You Stand For?

Abraham Lincoln stated, “Give us a clear vision that we may know where we stand and what we stand for, because unless we stand for something we shall fall for anything.”

I believe that it is important to stand for something in this world.  To stand for something and believe in something gives you purpose and meaning.  God wants us to be men and women who stand up for what we believe is right even when no one else is standing beside us.  This takes strength, determination, faith, and grace.  Standing for something goes beyond an internal belief; it requires both internal and external actions.  There are two ways you can prove that you can stand for something: with your words and with your actions.

God does not want you to be wishy washy with your words. Through studying the Scriptures I have learned that it is important to let your yes be yes and your no be no.  If you say you are going to do something, then do it.  The same should be said about your actions.  If you say that you are a good leader then prove it, lead. As you lead be mindful of the fact that people are watching you.  Therefore, it is important to leave a good name for yourself.  The author of Ecclesiastes stated, a good name is better than the most expensive perfume. (Ecclesiastes 7:1)  As we prove that we stand for something we will honor our God, our Navy, and our family by creating an honorable name to pass down to our children and grandchildren. “Because, unless we stand for something we shall fall for anything.”  The result will leave a lasting legacy, and honor will follow both you and those who carry your name.
