HELMAND PROVINCE, Afghanistan. 4 March 2012 – Marines, Airmen and Seabees assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 11’s DET Dwyer took a few hours to celebrate the 70th birthday of the Naval Construction Forces on March 4th.  CMC Robert R. Crespin launched the festivities with a few welcoming words, followed by Officer in Charge LT Seth D. Cochran who introduced the youngest and oldest Seabees present, Equipment Operator Constructionman Recruit MacKenzie Oflaherty of Heath, Ohio and Equipment Operator 1st Class Charles E. Bernard of Brooklyn, New York.  EOCR Oflaherty spent the next fifteen minutes reading great moments in Naval Construction Forces history, reminding his fellow Seabees of ground-breaking projects that has epitomized the ‘Can Do’ attitude.

A Seabee-designed cake, barbecue chicken, ribs,  and beans were part of a hearty menu, and an improvised football game one of several outdoor activities held during the celebration.
