BAGRAM, Afghanistan (March 5, 2012) – U.S. Navy Builder Constructionman Wyman Tolbert from McKinney, Texas and assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 11, was awarded his Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist (SCWS) qualification at a ceremony held on Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.

For sailors belonging to the Naval Construction Force, or Seabees, the SCWS is a professional achievement and rite of passage that signifies the individual Seabee’s mastery over a variety of military tactics and contingency construction knowledge, including combat skills, project management, quality control, logistics, construction equipment, tactical communications and safety.

Making the occasion even more special, Constructionman Tolbert was awarded his SCWS pin on the 70th Anniversary of the formation of the Seabees, who were created after the start of World War II in response to massive demands for overseas construction in support of the war effort.

More recently, Seabees have been deployed extensively to Iraq and Afghanistan to provide construction support for U.S. and Coalition Forces engaged in combat and host-nation support operations.

Known for their “Can Do” attitude and their ability to complete complicated construction and engineering projects in austere environments and while under enemy fire, the Seabees have built a legacy of overcoming seemingly insurmountable challenges to get the job done, due in no small part to the professionalism and commitment of sailors like Constructionman Tolbert.
