‘Be Thankful’, Be Content

As Seabees you are very busy participating in countless projects and training evolutions throughout the year, yet during this holiday weekend you get the chance to sit back, relax, and celebrate a day of thanksgiving.  As your command Chaplain, I would like to offer you a word of encouragement and wise council.

Be thankful and learn to be content with what you have been given.

You live in the greatest nation on earth with running water, plenty of food, shelter.  As sailors you have a means to provide for your families and yourself.

Just because you live in a very negative, and often times depressed, materialistic world, you do not need to be sucked into this materialistic mindset, which equals slavery due to excessive debt.

Yes, be thankful this holiday season; yet above all else learn the discipline of simplicity, and contentment, which is being satisfied with what you have been given.  It is nice to have a lot of things, but blessed is the man who is free from debt.

If you are in need right now, ask for help.  A good place to start would be God.  As the Scriptures state, “My God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches through His Son (Philippians 4:19).”

Have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving

This message comes to you from prospective Command Chaplain, Lieutenant Junior Grade Brian Myers.
