By Lt. j.g. Theodore D. Packowski, NMCB 11 Det Rota Public Affairs

Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 11 deployed from their homeport inGulfport, Miss. to Camp Mitchell, Naval Station Rota, Spain. NMCB 11 took charge of the camp from NMCB 4 on August 12, 2013 during a change of charge ceremony at the camp’s flag pole.

This marked the successful completion of a six month deployment for NMCB 4.

Both battalions worked closely together to ensure a seamless transition and complete turnover of the camp.

NMCB 11 will be tasked with general engineering, embark support, equipment support and Africa Partnership Station support.

While only part of NMCB 11 is deployed to Spain, there are other details in Gulfport, Africa, Guam and Bahrain. NMCB 11 will have Seabees in eight different countries on four continents, stretched across 8,500 miles and 10 time zones.

For the Seabees of NMCB 11 it represents the opportunity to utilize all the skills, experience and training gained during the 2012-2013 homeport period, and a chance to do so in support of the Global War on Terror and Humanitarian Aid.  For many of the troops, this is the very reason they joined the military.
